HISTORY
Northglenn is a late-bloomer compared to other towns in the area, being established in April of 1969. Therefore, Northglenn has little history to speak of. It was 1959 when Perl-Mack Co. finalized plans for a large subdivision north of Denver, with plans for commercial, industrial, recreational, and school areas centered around a shopping complex. Interest in the homes swamped the Perl-Mack staff, and by October of 1962, the town was booming with over 10,000 residents, and the community was even named “The most perfectly planned community in America” by Life magazine.
The community of Northglenn managed to evade annexation by nearby Thornton through a Supreme Court ruling in 1969, and proceeded with incorporation. The name of the city was changed a year later from North Glenn to Northglenn. In 1984, the Northglenn Police Department had its first, and only, casualty while on duty to-date. E. B. Rains, Jr. was shot answering a call to a home, and later died from his wounds. Webster Lake Park was changed to E. B. Rains, Jr. Memorial Park in 1985. The entire park was rehabilitated and was unveiled July 4, 2001. It features an added three acres, improved trails and irrigation systems, new picnic tables, new flower beds, and 30 new trees.
